Programmes & Curriculum
The Rangitaiki College curriculum is currently being reviewed and developed around a model of best practice which aligns Culturally Responsive and High Impact Teaching Practices.
All students have opportunities across every subject area to develop and strengthen their skills and learning in all subject areas. They are not only important for young people, but for everyone in our learning community — students, teachers, leaders, parents, and whānau alike.
Junior students are encouraged to participate across a broad range of curriculum areas, helping them discover new interests, experiences, and passions. Juniors study six core subjects and rotate through a variety of option subjects each term, giving them the opportunity to explore different pathways.
Senior students follow a more personalised curriculum pathway tailored to their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. Alongside core learning areas, students can select subjects and programmes that support their career goals and personal success.
Rangitaiki College offers NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, along with a range of practical and industry-based qualifications including apiary, small machinery, chainsaw skills, and barista training.
Students are supported to develop career plans that may involve further education, training, employment, apprenticeships, or workplace learning opportunities. Rangitaiki College helps students build the skills, knowledge, and qualifications needed for successful post-school pathways.
Students also have opportunities to participate in Trades and Gateway programmes, gaining valuable hands-on experience across industries such as media, hospitality, engineering, and small motors. In 2027 students will be able to develop skills in construction and associated trades through a Construction Academy which will provide a full time course offered in partnership with the Eastern Bay Trades Academy and the Kōkōhinau Trust.
