Arts

The Rangitaiki College Visual Art department is a vibrant and creative space where students are encouraged to explore and express their unique artistic voice.

Our junior programme (Years 9 and 10) provides a strong foundation in a variety of art forms, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. We focus on developing core skills while exploring themes inspired by our local environment and community, fostering a sense of place and belonging.

As students progress to NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, they delve into more in-depth, student-centred learning. Our senior students develop a personalised artistic journey, with opportunities to specialise in painting, printmaking, and photography.

A key aspect of our approach is integrating a mātauranga Māori perspective, encouraging students to connect with their cultural heritage and tell their own stories through their art.

We nurture both technical ability and conceptual thinking, preparing students for future pathways in the creative arts.

Our music department encourages our students to achieve their personal goals in different instruments, as well as singing and vocals, music theory and performance.

Drama reinforces our students’ confidence in exploration and performance and our school hall boasts a full-sized stage.

Our Maori Performing Arts department is a strength of Rangitaiki College, with students achieving top results in national assessment. Our junior students learn our school haka, and our Kapa Haka roopu regularly perform and enter into regional competition.
