School Spirit

Our school spirit is represented by the uniform our students wear every day. 

The Rangitāiki College polo shirt is more than a uniform item —it is a wearable expression of whakapapa, guardianship, and aspiration.
The Tihori motif, flowing boldly along the right-hand side, embodies the rangatira of the Rangitāiki Awa—leaders whose mana, wisdom, and courage shaped the life of the
Rangitāiki Plains. Its placement, running from under the arm down to the waist, reflects the continuous presence of leadership beside us, supporting every step.

At the base of Tihori rests the figure of Te Tahi o te Rangi, the great Ngāti Awa tohunga. His role as a spiritual leader and navigator of knowledge anchors the wearer in the depth of Ngāti Awa tradition, reminding us that learning is guided not only by intellect but also by wairua (spirit) and tikanga (values).

Tihori speaks of whakapapa, guardianship, and the leadership that shapes and
guides that journey.
When worn together, they remind every student that they carry both the vision for their future and the strength of their past, walking in the footsteps of Rangatira while forging their own path.

Our school strongly values its connection to its history as Edgecumbe College. Our houses still reflect this connection and house activities are always hotly contested.
